Legalize the Green in 2019
North Carolina House and Senate races are starting to pick up steam. Every candidate (that isn’t protected by gerrymandering) is yearning for a chance to talk to their soon-to-be constituents and tell them how he/ she is the best candidate for you.
It’s a time when you can ask your candidates almost anything and get a neutral political response. The best reverse tactic to get their attention is by connecting with them using as many of their senses as possible. For instance, if your candidate gets an email from you, he won’t SEE a face, or HEAR a voice, FEEL a handshake, or even SMELL you. This makes them feel very disconnected and gives them an easy out. On the contrary, if you can talk to them on the phone they will at least get to hear your voice. Even better, if he can meet with you face to face, shake your hand, and look you in the eyes. You might still get some bullshit answer, but your question is going to be one they remember and stew on, creating a lasting memory.
As a marijuana reform activists, it’s important to highlight the importance of each of these House and Senate races, and how we have a chance to get pro-marijuana candidates in the Capital Building and leading the way towards marijuana reform in NC. We know that this change can only come from the inside by voting on proposed legislation. This is our chance to show that we are ready to get marijuana friendly lawmakers in office to vote in favor of those laws.
Alot of people say that cannabis hasn’t come to North Carolina because cannabis users don’t get out and vote. This year, let’s prove them wrong. In 2019 I want to have a serious bill go through the House or Senate, but that won’t mean anything if we don’t have people in those seats to vote “yay”.
In order to do this I need help from every activist around the state. I will help you track down your candidates, help you ask the questions that need to be asked, and document their response on our website and with our members. I urge you all to do this, even if you’re not a paid member. I also call on ALL the NORML chapters across the state to assist with this as well by reaching out to me. We need to be organized and make sure that we make our followers aware of the importance of these tasks.
It’s going to take hard work and dedication to finding candidates, debates, town halls, etc but if we can add our presence in in the Capital Building in 2018, we can have a shot at #LegalizeTheGreenIn2019
