2018, using it to organize the impeccable approach to the 2019 legislative session
The new year has come and gone and now it’s time to buckle down. We kicked off this year with a successful meeting that brought in new people excited to join the fight, old members who’ve come to their first meeting, a coalition with another cannabis advocacy organization, and great discussion of what our focus is for 2018.
The North Carolina General Assembly will be in a “short session” this year. Because of this, our dream of an acceptable cannabis reform bill being passed in 2018 is slimmer than ever. However, we understand that in order to properly tackle this fight in North Carolina, we need to make sure our approach is impeccable for 2019-2020.
For 2018 Catawba NORML wants to headline cannabis reform to the congressional campaigns across the state and make voters mindful of candidates that are for, or against this cause. A key part of that has to do with digging into campaigns relentlessly about their stance on the issue. Will they succumb to the bought and paid for extract-only lobbyists? Do they support decriminalization efforts? Do they support rescheduling of cannabis? The tricky part is then communicating it clearly to you, the voter, in a way that gives you the confidence to go to debates or town halls and get them to publicly commit (not that that means anything to most politicians anyways).
In another effort to create the perfect approach to 2019-2020, Catawba NORML is going to implement strong outreach goals to build the momentum and membership we must have. We are shooting for at least 5 large events to set up our booth at and we aim to DOUBLE our membership. We know the citizens of North Carolina support cannabis reform. Our job is to show you that we can “tackle” this issue, show you how to “tackle”, when to “tackle”, and organize the “tackle” in order to get cannabis reform brought to our state for the sake of our states citizenhood.
Join us and fight.
